Fridges and freezers Wayne repairs
Wayne repairs household refrigerators and freezers of every layout: French door, bottom freezer, side by side, top freezer, counter-depth, built-in, upright freezers and chest freezers. Wayne is an authorized GE service representative, so GE fridges get warranty repairs as well as paid repairs, and other GE lines such as Profile and Cafe are covered on the GE repair page.
Typical fridge repairs include evaporator and condenser fans, defrost heaters and thermostats, door gaskets, water inlet valves, ice makers, control boards and start relays. Sealed-system work on the compressor or refrigerant loop is diagnosed on site and quoted before anything is opened.
Common fridge symptoms
Fridge not cooling but freezer works
Check that nothing is blocking the vent between the freezer and fridge sections, and that the temperature dial has not been bumped. If the fridge section stays warm after 24 hours, the evaporator fan or the defrost system needs a technician.
Fridge not cold enough
Check that the door seals flat all the way around and that the fridge is not packed so tightly that air cannot move. A fridge that stays above 4 degrees Celsius after those checks needs a visit.
Freezer frosting up
Check the freezer door for a bag or box that is holding it ajar. Heavy frost that returns after a manual defrost points to a failed defrost heater, thermostat or gasket.
Fridge leaking water
Check whether the water is coming from the inside of the fridge, which usually means a blocked defrost drain, or from behind it, which points to the water line or inlet valve. Turn off the water supply if the fridge has an ice maker and call.
Fridge noisy or running constantly
A clicking sound every few minutes, or a fridge that never stops running, is a sign of a failing relay, fan or condenser problem. Unplug the fridge, pull it out and vacuum dust off the coils if you can reach them without touching wiring, fans or tubing. Plug it back in and call if the noise continues.
Ice maker not making ice
Check that the ice maker arm is down and the water supply is on. An ice maker with water and no ice needs a technician.
Check it yourself or call
| Symptom | Likely cause | Check yourself or call |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge warm, freezer cold | Evaporator fan or defrost fault | Call |
| Both sections warm, fridge silent | Power, outlet or control | Check the plug and breaker, then call |
| Water inside the fridge | Blocked defrost drain | Call |
| Water behind the fridge | Water line or inlet valve | Turn off the water, then call |
| Heavy frost in the freezer | Door gasket or defrost system | Check the door seal, then call |
| Loud hum or clicking | Relay or compressor start fault | Call |
How a fridge repair visit works
- Call (416) 329-1415 or use the request-a-visit form. Describe the symptom and give the model number from the label inside the fridge.
- Wayne confirms the appointment himself, usually the evening before.
- Wayne arrives with common fridge parts such as fans, relays, thermostats and gaskets, so many repairs finish in one visit.
- Wayne quotes the repair before doing the work. Wayne tells you the diagnostic fee when you book (see the pricing page), and it is applied to the repair.
