Common washer symptoms
Washer not spinning
Check that the load is balanced and not too heavy, and that the lid or door is fully closed. A washer that agitates but never spins after a rebalanced load has a lid switch, belt, coupler or motor fault.
Washer not draining
Open the pump filter door at the bottom front of a front-load washer and clear it. Check that the drain hose is not kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe. If water still stays in the drum, call.
Washer leaking
Check the hose connections at the taps and at the back of the washer, and the door seal on a front-loader for trapped items or a torn fold. Water from underneath the machine while it runs means a pump, hose or tub seal problem.
Washer not filling
Check that both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are not blocked. A washer that hums but takes no water has an inlet valve or control fault.
Washer banging on spin
Redistribute the load and check that the washer sits level on all four feet. Banging that continues with a small balanced load points to worn suspension or shocks.
Washer door will not unlock
Wait 5 minutes after the cycle ends, as the lock releases on a delay. Unplug the washer for 60 seconds. A door that stays locked with water in the drum needs a technician.
Washer stops mid cycle
Note any error code on the display. Unplug the washer for 60 seconds and restart. A cycle that stops at the same point every time needs a visit.
