What goes into an appliance repair quote in Etobicoke

By Wayne, authorized GE service representative, Etobicoke. Updated September 13, 2026.

How an appliance repair quote is built from the diagnostic, parts and labour, and why Wayne quotes before any work starts on an Etobicoke visit.

What a repair quote is made of

An appliance repair quote has three parts: the diagnostic, the parts, and the labour. The diagnostic is the visit and the time it takes to find the fault. The parts are whatever failed. The labour is the time to replace them. Wayne tells you the diagnostic fee when you book (see the pricing page for how it works), and gives the parts and labour quote after he has diagnosed the appliance and before any work starts.

That order matters. A quote given before the diagnosis is a guess, and a guess is either padded to be safe or wrong.

The diagnostic

The diagnostic is the part of the visit where Wayne finds out what actually failed. On a fridge that means temperatures, the compressor, the fans, the defrost system and the stored fault codes. On a washer it means the fault history in the control, the water valve, the pump and the lid lock. On a dryer it means the airflow, the heat path and the vent.

The diagnostic fee covers that work and the trip. Wayne tells you the amount when you book, and it is applied to the repair if you go ahead. If you decide not to repair, or the appliance is not worth repairing, the diagnostic fee is the only charge.

Some faults are settled on the spot during the diagnostic. A control that needed a reset, a kinked drain hose, a dryer on the wrong cycle or a fridge in demo mode does not need a part. Those visits end at the diagnostic fee.

The parts

Parts are quoted at the price of the specific part the appliance needs. Wayne orders GE-sourced parts by model number, which matters for two reasons covered in the genuine GE parts post: the part fits and performs as the original did, and it does not put the appliance’s warranty at risk.

Common parts, like a door gasket or a dryer thermal fuse, are often on the truck. Less common parts are ordered after you approve the quote, and Wayne returns to fit them. Wayne tells you which case applies.

The labour

Labour is the time it takes to do the repair once the part is in hand. A gasket or an icemaker is quick. A defrost heater behind the freezer back panel takes longer. A sealed system repair on a refrigerator takes the longest of any repair, because it involves recovering the refrigerant and recharging the system after the part is replaced. Wayne quotes the labour with the part, and you approve that quote before work starts.

Part of the quote What it covers When you know the amount
Diagnostic The visit and the fault finding When you book, by phone
Parts The specific part or parts that failed After the diagnosis, before any work
Labour The time to replace the part After the diagnosis, before any work
Return visit A second trip if a part has to be ordered Wayne tells you if a return visit is needed

Why the quote comes before the work

A quote before the work protects both sides. You decide with the real number in front of you, and you can weigh it against the age of the appliance using the repair or replace guide. Wayne does not start a repair you have not approved, and he does not add charges that were not in the quote.

A one-technician business runs this way because Wayne is both the person quoting and the person doing the work. There is no dispatcher setting a price for a job they have not seen and no call centre between you and the answer.

What changes the size of a quote

The part is the biggest variable. A fridge compressor and a fridge door gasket are different repairs in every way. The appliance type matters too. Refrigerators and front load washers tend to have the more involved repairs. Dryers, dishwashers and top load washers tend to be quicker.

Access matters in Etobicoke housing. A stacked washer and dryer in a Humber Bay condo closet, a built-in fridge in a Kingsway kitchen and a dishwasher hard-wired behind a tiled kick plate all take more time to reach than a freestanding appliance in a basement. Mention the setup when you book so the visit is planned for it.

Warranty repairs

A GE appliance inside its manufacturer’s warranty is a different case. As an authorized GE service representative, Wayne performs warranty repairs on GE appliances under the terms of that warranty. Have the model number, the serial number and the proof of purchase ready. The warranty terms decide what is covered, and Wayne tells you before the visit if anything falls outside them.

Questions people ask

How much does appliance repair cost in Etobicoke?

The cost of any repair depends on which part failed and how long the job takes, so it cannot be quoted before the appliance has been diagnosed. Wayne tells you the diagnostic fee when you book, and that fee is applied to the repair if you go ahead. Wayne gives the full quote after the diagnosis and before any work starts.

Do I pay for the diagnostic if I decide not to repair?

Yes. The diagnostic fee covers the visit and the time to find the fault, and it is charged whether or not you go ahead. If you do go ahead, it is applied to the repair. Wayne tells you the fee when you book so there is no surprise at the door.

Can you give me a quote over the phone?

Wayne can tell you over the phone whether the symptom sounds like a repair worth making and what the diagnostic fee is. He cannot quote the repair itself until he has seen the appliance, because the same symptom can come from several different parts.

Are GE warranty repairs free?

A GE appliance inside its manufacturer's warranty is repaired under that warranty by an authorized GE service representative, and the terms of the warranty decide what is covered. Have the model number, serial number and proof of purchase ready when you book.
